I believe that there are two fundamental types of interactions: declarations and conversations.
A declaration is any interaction that is effectively one way. All mediums can be responsible for this, but television is often an especially good example of this. The interaction effectively occurs with thing 1 telling thing 2 what the object is. There is no possibility for change, evolution, or emergent potentials.
Declaration

A conversation on the other hand, is a fluid and dynamic interaction between thing 1 and thing 2 where the object is being continually constructed and reconstructed based on these interactions.
Conversation

A declaration is a one way street. A conversation is two way. A declaration declares what the world is. A conversation continually questions and remakes what the world is. A declaration requires rote memorization. A conversation is about teaching and learning.
